SOLAR PV
What the Solar PV feed-in-tariff changes mean to you:
On 12th December 2011 the government reduced the feed-in-tariff for Solar PV systems to 21p per kwh. In order to counteract this we have been actively negotiating with manufacturers to reduce the euipment cost of systems to enable us to pass this saving on to our customers. We are confident that the majority of systems will stiill 'payback' within a maximum of 9-10 years and will give an average Return on Investment of around 10-12%.
Please also be aware that from April 1st 2012 you will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for your property. Your property must meet a minimum rating of Grade C to ensure your entitlement to the full 21p/kwh feed-in-tariff. (Installations registered before this date are exempt from this requirement).
We are able to help and advise customers of ways in which they can meet the required rating and have introduced products and services such as loft insulation to assist with this.
How it works:
A typical PV system uses panels of solar cells, made from semi-conducting materials that react with sunlight to produce electricity. This electricity is then transferred into the property to power appliances and provide lighting, or if surplus to requirements, is sold to the local electricity network.
A PV cell consists of two thin layers of semi-conducting materials, usually silicon, that have been treated with chemical substances. These chemicals react to sunlight when it shines on the cell, creating an electric field across the layers and producing electricity. The greater the intensity of sunlight, the greater the flow of electricity. This process is called the 'photovoltaic effect'.
Get paid for the electricity you produce, even if you use it!
The best thing about having a solar PV system installed is that you will get paid for the energy it produces. On average an installed solar PV system fitted by us will pay for itself within 9-10 years. The feed-in-tariff as stated below is guaranteed to be paid for 25 years so you will continue to receive an income from your system for 15 years after the system has already paid for itself.
Feed-in-tariff payments are RPI (inflation) linked and are tax free.
What systems qualify?
To receive the feed in tariff the Installer, PV panels and solar inverter all have to be approved by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). NRG 8 Ltd are fully accredited with the MCS scheme and will register your system with the scheme free of charge.
Solar PV Slates and Tiles
We can also supply and install solar PV tiles and slates. Ideal for new build and retrofit installations where the look of the panels needs to fit in with the look of the existing roof.
